Business to Business auctions account for one of the largest portions of
commerce on the internet. Companies like GM and GTE use these type of
auctions to make sure they are getting the best value for the parts they need.
1. Freemarkets.com - Freemarkets.com is a rather unique site that caters to
buyers of industrial equipment, products, materials, etc… The site deals with
large contracts, and brokered near $3bn in auctions last year. Basically, the
auctions are downward in that sellers compete for buyers and continue to lower
their prices. The areas covered are diverse and the web site is well laid out.
2. Ironmall.com - Ironmall, an alliance website with Ubid.com, offers strictly
construction equipment for auction. Ironmall is essentially a business to
business site in that private individuals do not typically purchase and sell
heavy construction machinery. The product selection, from what I can tell,
varies to the degree that Ubid does, including expensive, heavy machinery such
as backhoes.
3. SRAuction.com - Another Ubid alliance site, SRAuction offers industrial
machinery and processing equipment for auction. Sellers are typically small
businesses and larger manufacturers, as are buyers. Like EBay, this site offers
a reputation rating for estimating vendor reliability. SRAuction takes no
liability for default sales.
